About JUST FISH Taxidermy

Kevin Raymond here. I am the owner/operator of JUST FISH taxidermy (No, I don’t do deer heads). Born and raised in Bradford County, I grew up fishing the local farm ponds and trout streams. In the early years, my uncle Alton taught my brothers and I everything he knew about fishing. If we weren’t with him fishing, my brothers, friends and I would walk miles if it meant we could fish. Largemouth, pickerel, panfish and trout, they were all good for a days entertainment. We didn’t fish the river in those days even with the Susquehanna being just 2 miles away. Grandma said we would surely drown there and who were we to argue.

Mounted crappieAs I grew older (like 21) I finally succumbed to the lure of the Susquehanna. Here I discovered the joy of fishing for smallmouth, walleye, musky, northern pike, channel cat, carp, the occasional largemouth, perch, crappie, and trout. It’s amazing the number of different species in the north branch of the Susquehanna. It doesn’t matter what your fishing for, you just don’t know what your going to catch. To this day it is one of my favorite pastimes to spend an afternoon in a boat in pursuit of the one that won’t get away. It doesn’t matter if I go with my brother, my father in law or one of my buddies, this is a great way to spend the day. Around the time I was introduced to river fishing I decided to teach myself taxidermy. So, I bought some tapes and some books and started working on the fish I caught. I was sure it would be easy to learn (that must have been the rock that my brother broke over my head when I was a teenager). It wasn’t as easy as it looked. Fortunately, I was born with an extra measure of stubbornness. I kept at it and bought some more books and tapes. I attended some seminars and read some more books. All the while getting better. Friends and family convinced me to take the taxidermy exam and become a Pennsylvania licensed taxidermist. I went to the exam, the judges were impressed, I passed. So, what I enjoyed doing for myself as a hobby I could now do as a part time job.

Over the years I have built my business primarily through word of mouth. The quality of my work, my rapid turnaround time and my reasonable prices have steadily grown my business. I am now turning my part time job into my full time job! So, the next time you catch that fish that makes you say “Wow” or your grandchild catches their first ever fish call me at JUST FISH taxidermy . I can make that memory last a lifetime.
